We all have a morning routine. It may or may not be the most productive morning routine, but we all have one. It could be waking up in the morning and going straight to the kitchen to turn on the coffee maker or it could be hitting snooze for 30 minutes and then rolling over to check out the latest posts on Instagram. Needless to say, how we start our mornings can determine how our day goes. Sometimes a few minor changes can go a long way when it comes to morning routines.
How I wake up in the morning is just as important as how I prepare for bed. I actually struggle with getting a good night’s sleep which can sometimes make my mornings rough. I put forth a lot of effort (and unfortunately money) to ensure a get a good night’s rest because it’s important. From my bed linens, to lighting, and how my bedroom smells all plays a factor into how I sleep. In addition to that, how I wake up and start my morning determines my entire day. Having a morning routine helps me to stay focused and allows me to be more productive throughout the day. I’m going to share with you my morning routine and also share some items that has helped me get a good night’s sleep!
Sunrise Alarm Clock
I wake up at 5:30am so it’s still pretty dark. I use to use the alarm on my phone but I found myself hitting snooze quite often and would wake up at the last minute scrambling. Now I use a Sunrise Alarm Clock. It does just as it says, which is simulate a sunrise. I set the alarm for 5:30am but 20 minutes before that, the “sunrise” light starts really dim and gradually gets brighter in 20 minutes so you wake up “naturally” to the light. You can also set the sunrise for “10mins, 20mins, 30mins, or 60mins. I wake up more calm and not to the sudden alarm of my phone. Check it out for yourself here.
Lemon Water
I drink warm lemon water first thing in the morning before I eat anything. I’m not a coffee drinker and never felt like I needed it to start my day. There are so many health benefits to drinking warm lemon water including keeping you hydrated, provides a good source of Vitamin C, aids in digestion, and many more benefits.
Essential Oil Diffuser
I recently started using an essential oil diffuser at night because it relaxes so I figured, why not try it in the morning. It’s something about the smell of Eucalyptus that awakens you and makes you feel refreshed. I found this Ceramic Essential Oil Diffuser here. I love it because it goes perfect with home decor and it can last up to 8 hours. You can shop this diffuser here.
No Social Media Before 8am…
…So remember I wake up at 5:30am. Nothing is really going on at 5:30am, other than the posts I missed after going to bed and I’m ok with missing things. You’re going to miss posts and stories will expire, but social media will always be there. I try not to get on social media before 8am and utilize that time to catch up on emails or read something motivational for the day. We waste a lot of time mindlessly scrolling on social media so this has allowed me to be more productive in the morning.
Morning Radio
Music is a huge part of my mental well-being. The right music just feels good and can really alter a mood. I started listening to Sirius XM as a free trial when I bought my car years ago. I loved it so much that I continued my subscription. I love the variety of channels and I don’t have to hassle with trying to find a song or a particular artist I want to listen to. Typically in the morning, I will play a soft jazz channel or instrumentals to get me going! If you workout in the morning, there are also channels with music specifically for working out!
